these illustrations are beautiful. it's a pretty unique style. it's kind of like Amano's stuff, only not as diverse and colorful. and he or she, tends to draw mostly women.
these photographs, or costume designs rather, are pretty damn cool. dark stuff. i can totally see this being a short film, or a NIN music video or something.
Juha Arvid Helminen says he's a macabre artist and he's based in Finland. go figure.
her debut collection. she won the "Best Avant-garde Award" at the Createurope: The Fashion Deisgn Award. her stuff is pretty out there. kinda cool to just look at.
you can see the rest of her collection on her website. she has more on her behance site.
Nat Geo Magazine does a collection of the most breath taking photographs from every month of that year. this years pretty amazing. i put of few of them below. if you like to see the rest for 2009 and also previous years, or would like some info on the images, you can go here.
everyones done the thing where you squish someone's head from afar with your finger tips. these videos are kind of like that but way cooler. and they make music. following videos by Chris Cairns.

Woody
FIVE Rebrand: Accordian
FIVE Rebrand: Guitar (my favorite one)
FIVE Rebrand: Drums
and as a bonus, Chris also did this crazy video. check out the website here for credits and production stills.
this video is pretty bad ass. i mean the explosions could have been saw dust with styrofoam, but the last one is pretty crazy. out right dangerous. just the way i like it.
awesome opening for F5. so apparently DVEIN did this on zero budget. dang it. they asked the speakers for 5 objects that inspire them and their work. then they put all those things together and made this amazing piece. D.
saw these photos a while back. the story of Amelia Earhart is always great. i'm sure you ladies love all that she stood for and all that junk. guessing the photographer, Giuliano Bekor went with the Gardner Island hypothesis. if you're in Romania, pick up this month's Marie Claire to see the rest of the set. or you can just go here. D.
what is it about black orbs? something about them give a sense of mystery and science to me. i've noticed more artists are using black orbs for their art, and they all have an air of the unknown to them. but not only are they mysterious, but they are so cool to look at.
"Onyx" by earph so mysterious. you can buy this as a print through here.
"Gantz" by Hiroya Oku this manga is probably the most original and craziest one i have read in a long time. think it's up to chapter 305. it's pretty mature stuff so keep the kids away.
very cool and very mysterious. be sure to check out his other videos as well.
from the "O Series" by James White James White's work usually consists of the retro look, but mixes in a little bit of the contemporary aesthetic. i dig his stuff a lot.
i am sure that i am missing a lot more art with black orbs in it. i just can't remember or think of anything else. my bad.
Justice remix of everyone's favorite toilet clogger, Lenny Kravitz' "Let Love Rule". video is hilarious. ending is a little cheesy but it fits in well with the cheesy 90's feel. video directed by Keith Schofield D.
post production on this video was all done analogue and all in camera. the results? dope. very gritty and glitchy. i like. music's pretty cool too. it's by Jon Hopkins.
Director/Editor/Post Production: Bison Producer: James Bretton Production Company: Blinkink Additional Camera: Chris Nunn more info at the youtube page. D.
Makoto Yabuki is a director / art director. he's based in Tokyo. currently he's at Tangram. awesome site btw. i really dig his style. clean but at times chaotic. it feels industrial but soft. a mix of futuristic styles with a mythological ambiance. he's got a few videos on his vimeo site, but my favorite has to be "Confine(s)". it has one of my favorite color combination, red and white and black. the editing is great, and the abstract character designs are pretty out there, which i like. he did 2 others as a set i believe, "contrast project". check out his stuff, lot of nice things happening there. D.
this game looks Zelda-rific! i can not believe how this game got ok'd by Miyamoto Shigeru unless he is part of the development, which i doubt. he must be pissed off, or not. he seems to be all smiles all the time. i am so excited for this game, and i hope it comes out stateside. the lighting and DOF look great. haven't been this excited for a game in a while. last one was MGS4. there's a bunch of stuff on the website to look at. the best part is that you can custom create your character. you know they're going to make Link. still can't believe this got cleared. even the music is similar. still, i want it! japan release, Nov. 05. D.
"Mare Street, E8" by, Digital Club was posted back in April '08. just wanted to post this video because it's so cool. very Daft Punk-esque. music is done by them as well. you can view and download a higher quality version here. still think this was all animated in after effects. i know a few people who think different. if not, it can definitely be done in AE.
a company called Like Minded Studio did this piece. it says it was uploaded November '08. pretty similar, also cool. they also animated it. uploaded much later. D.
ok, i was getting sick of Processing and all that animating with numbers stuff. but Erik Natzke has made it interesting again for me. but instead of doing videos, he makes fine art. he's found a great way to blend art and technology, and the results are great. Erik's got a bunch of videos on his vimeo site. he also has a quick and simple demonstration on coding on his blog entitled, "Flash Code 101". also if you are in the Toronto area, check out his solo exhibit, "Colors of Nature" at Function13. he also has an online journal. where does he find the time? D.
Etsuko Ichikawa takes molten glass and rides it along paper. the results are pretty cool. i think i can do this. cut to me in the hospital with 3rd degree burns. looks like shes got some interns spraying water on the paper before they burn the place down. anyways, i think her exhibit at the Bellevue Arts Museum is probably over. looks like a cool space. D.
so i stumbled upon this behind the scene spoof about the future of films and the emotional drive of the actors, "CGI-Brows". it was pretty funny. pretty creepy as well. but i loved it and saw the rest of their stuff. pretty good. simple, short, creepy, dark, hilarious, and weird. the one called "Janine" was probably the creepiest one, but still funny. the last shot was pretty rough. i went to their site, Rocket Sausage, and the open to the site was hilarious. they also have a blog. can't wait to see more from these guys. D.
back in march, the Scotsman had an article of the 9 best guerrilla artists over the years. my favorite of them all being Banksy, made the list of course. his political and social satire is unmatched in my eyes. every time i see something new from this guy, it amazes me how simple but profound his images can be. usually the dramatic environment adds to the effect. but it must be weird being so famous and not be able to tell anyone except your lawyer(s), and maybe your significant other(s). (s)he obviously isn't in it for the fame. it's always hard to find people you can trust anyways. i wonder if (s)he is planning on telling the world when (s)he is on his or her deathbed. that would be sad and pretty cool at the same time. D.
these photographs, Femininity (Un)Veiled by Jean-Baptiste Mondino are pretty cool. they look like female assassin ninjas. it feels the only way for these women to express there individualism is to accessorize. you can read an article about it here, translated from french. i've also came across this guerrilla artist by the name, Princess Hijab. similar but with an interesting contrast. D.
insane! 10 days to complete. my jaw dropped when i saw this. the part where the legs reform to a bigger body was my favorite part. collaboration between David Ellis and Blu. D.
i love this movie. it's just so funny. i would've loved to work on this film. and i do believe we are heading in this direction. Idiocracy, directed by Mike Judge. go watch it! D.
